Campfire History

Campfire Marshmallows have been a family favorite since 1917, when the Imperial Candy Co./Redel Candy Corp. of Milwaukee introduced the delicious treats, with packaging that recommended roasting the product over fires.  Two years later, Campfire responded to increasing popularity of marshmallows as a baking ingredient by rounding the shape of the marshmallows and increasing the size of the package. Increasingly, marshmallows became an everyday purchase for American families.

In 1939, Campfire Marshmallows were part of marshmallow history when Mildred Day and Malitta Jensen of the Campfire Girls used Campfire Marshmallows to create the first Rice Krispies marshmallow treat as part of a fundraiser for the Michigan Campfire Girls council.

Over the years, Campfire has been proud to be a member of great food manufacturing organizations including The Angelus Company (makers of Cracker Jack), Borden Inc., International Home Foods, and Con Agra. Since 2003, Campfire Marshmallows has been part of the Doumak, Inc. family of brands, with headquarters based in Illinois.Campfire-Marshmallows-Can
